When it comes to global accolades TOKARA’s flagship white knows no bounds, after yet another Gold strike on the world stage and a score of 95/100 from the prestigious 2019 International Wine and Spirit Competition in London.

This is the 4th time this year that the TOKARA Director’s Reserve White 2016 has been hailed by international wine commentators and judges as a benchmark for South African Bordeaux-style white blends. Earlier this year the wine earned Platinum with a score of 97/100 at the Decanter World Wine Awards, after bagging a Gold medal at the UK based Sommelier Wine Awards. In his 2019 South Africa Special Report, UK Master of Wine Tim Atkin chose the 2016 vintage as one of his ‘wines of the year’ with a score of 95 points, his elite selection comparable with the best wines in the world.

“Right from the start, 20 vintages ago, world-class has been the minimum standard of everything we do at TOKARA and the international achievements of our Director’s Reserve flagship wines attest to our unrelenting pursuit of excellent,” says GM Karl Lambour.

The champion TOKARA Director’s Reserve White 2016 is a classic blend of Sauvignon blanc (70%) and Semillon (30%) grown on the highest slopes of TOKARA’s Stellenbosch property.

This is a wonderfully complex wine with rich layers of ripe quince, passion fruit and baked apples, rounded off by hints of lemon grass, toasted almonds and freshly baked brioche. It finishes with amazing clarity and depth with a slight grip just lingering.

The TOKARA Director’s Reserve White 2016 is available at selected fine wine outlets and sells online or at the cellar door at R270 a bottle. For online purchases, visit
